WHY WE LUV THIS
Nothing like merging two things I love dearly… visual art and writing. I’ve been an avid journal-writer since my early teens. The intimate details of adolescent life; that if I had thought to save, would have made a wonderful book. I continue to use journaling as a form of therapy. But, half the fun is searching for unique blank books to write in. This one features one of my most popular pieces of artwork, “Organized Chaos”. The original, now hangs at Citigroup headquarters at 399 Park Avenue in New York City. — MAGGIE HERNANDEZ-KNIGHT

My Miracle
by Bertha Melikyan (Purchase)

I Put the Can In Cancer
by Imogen Gough (Purchase)
WHY WE LUV THESE
I love, love, love books! My two favorites are My Miracle by Bertha Melikyan. A story of a little creature who comes to find just how beautiful he is & as he shares his gifts everyone around him sees their own beauty as well. Excellent for the children in all of us.
The other is I Put the Can In Cancer. A terrificly empowering book with only a sentence or two per page & lots of illustrations. It is fun to read as well as insightful for anyone going through the process of having cancer, or anyone who loves someone going through this process. It’s also great for teaching children in a light way what it’s like to go through it. The author, Imogen Gough, realized when she was diagnosed with breast cancer that all the books out there were about things you couldn’t or shouldn’t do. So she decided to write a book about what you could do.

Sister Wendy’s Story of Painting (Enhanced and Expanded Edition)
$37.80 Purchase
WHY WE LUV THIS
I’m an artist who grew up Catholic. So when one of my dearest friends, Senia Sakarya (then Senia De La Cruz) turned me on to Sr. Wendy’s Story of painting, I was fiercely opposed. “There is no way a nun could possibly have an objective view of art”, I thought. After months of her trying to convince me, I stumbled upon Sr. Wendy on PBS. I was shocked at how passionately she spoke of painting; less from a historical or religious perspective and more from the heart. – MAGGIE HERNANDEZ-KNIGHT

Why We Luv This
I ride the subway in NYC everyday and I see these ads for the Amazon Kindle. I love the clean design, the colorful covers and the idea of carrying a single light-weight devise in my bag as opposed to two and three books. This morning (9/28/09), I ambushed this woman on the subway. “Is that a kindle? Tell me what it’s like?”. She was great and OMG, it’s better than I dreamed. You can wirelessly upload your books, change font size, and elect to have the text read to you. The beauty of that feature is that you are getting a 100% unabridged audio book. LUV it! — Maggie Hernandez

Think and Grow Rich
by Napolean Hill
$13.57 (Amazon)
Why We Luv This
Before “The Secret” and the “Law of Attraction”, there was Think and Grow Rich. Written in 1937, it is an awesome 300+ page masterpiece that reveals the secrets of great leaders. Surprisingly, their secrets are less about business and more about personal development, specifically the power of thought matched by a burning desire to achieve. What is so special about this book is that it is simply written and full of real-life examples to live by. — Maggie Hernandez-Knight
